The award honors Sweeney\u2019s coverage of Berks County agriculture on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wlvt.org\/reportercorps\/pbs39-news-tonight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i><strong>PBS39 News Tonight<\/strong><\/i><\/a><i><strong>.<\/strong><\/i><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe envision vibrant communities, and farms play a vital role in a community\u2019s health,\u201d said Tim Fallon, Chief Executive Officer of Lehigh Valley Public Media\u2122, home of PBS39. \u201cWe\u2019re proud of Brittany for her work as a reporter and congratulate her on this award!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brittany Sweeney is passionate about telling stories in her home state of Pennsylvania. She currently serves as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wlvt.org\/reportercorps\/berks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Berks County<\/a> reporter for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wlvt.org\/reportercorps\/pbs39-news-tonight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i>PBS39 News Tonight<\/i><\/a>. Sweeney\u2019s coverage of Berks County farmers includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wlvt.org\/blogs\/berks\/farm-to-table-as-a-way-of-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a segment highlighting<\/a> how B.A.R.N. helped the Pure Wild Tea company in Bernville to expand their retail locations. She also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wlvt.org\/blogs\/berks\/diversifying-on-the-farm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">profiled a farm<\/a> in Allegheny Valley that has been in operation for 10 generations, and how the current generation is adapting to a changing world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople may not know that there are so many fresh, locally-sourced options for food right in their county,\u201d said Sweeney. \u201cI\u2019m proud to tell the stories of the farmers and the organizations like B.A.R.N. who demonstrate the importance of agriculture in a community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Berks Agricultural Resource Network is a non-profit organization that provides support to farmers in the county by providing marketing resources and coordinating with other advocacy groups to develop policies promoting agriculture with government officials. B.A.R.N. also provides agricultural education for the public through workshops and farm tours.<\/p>\n<p>The Agriculture Journalism Award will be presented at the Bountiful Berks Banquet on Friday, November 1 at the Leesport Farmers Market.
