{"id":9926,"date":"2015-11-20T17:50:43","date_gmt":"2015-11-20T22:50:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=9926"},"modified":"2015-11-20T17:50:43","modified_gmt":"2015-11-20T22:50:43","slug":"allentown-lights-set-to-sparkle-this-holiday-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=9926","title":{"rendered":"\u201cALLENTOWN LIGHTS\u201d SET TO SPARKLE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Allentown will welcome holiday se<span data-term=\"goog_820545374\">ason vi<\/span>sitors to the city with \u201cAllentown Lights\u201d events from November 28 \u2013 December 31, 2015.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAllentown Lights\u201d will feature light decorations and displays at key locations throughout the city.\u00a0 It replaces the popular \u201cLights in the Parkway\u201d event for the 2015 season.\u00a0 Repairs being made to a retaining wall in Lehigh Parkway will make it impossible for two-lane traffic to enter the parkway safely for viewing the annual light show.<\/p>\n<p>At no charge, \u201cAllentown L<span data-term=\"goog_820545379\">ights\u201d will cover Hami<\/span>lton Street from 10th to Sixth streets, the Arts Park, the Arts Walk, Cedar Beach Park, and Andre Reed Park. \u201cAllentown Lights\u201d is open from 5pm-9pm nightly from November 28 \u2013 December 31, with<span data-term=\"goog_820545381\"> the exception of December 25, when th<\/span>e lights displays will be closed for the holiday.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to festive decorations, \u201cAllentown Lights\u201d will feature a myriad of family-friendly events and programs throughout the holiday season, including beloved holiday movies, concerts, youth activities, delicious food and be<span data-term=\"goog_820545383\">verage items and more<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The<span data-term=\"goog_820545387\"> city partnered with local arts<\/span> and downtown organizations to create an interactive calendar of all events happening during the \u201cAllentown Lights\u201d program in close proximity to the displays. Visit <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.allentownpa.gov\/allentownlights\" target=\"_blank\">www.allentownpa.gov\/allentownlights<\/a><\/u> to view the calendar and plan your visit to Allentown!<\/p>\n<p>Families will be able to come and ice skate for free from dawn to 9pm at the city\u2019s two synthetic<span data-term=\"goog_820545390\"> ice s<\/span>kating rinks which will be set-up at Cedar Beach Park and Andre Reed Park.\u00a0 On site skate rentals will be availabl<span data-term=\"goog_820545391\">e on Thursdays and Fr<\/span>idays from 5p\u20139pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 12pm\u20139pm. Skate rentals cost $2, with proceeds benefitting local non-profit organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Horse-drawn carriage rides will be available at 9<sup>th<\/sup> &amp; Hamilton Street on Thursday evenings from 5pm-9pm and at Cedar Beach Park on Fridays \u2013 Saturdays from 5p\u20139pm. The city has teamed up with Bethlehem Carriage Company to offer both classic horse-drawn carriage rides as well as magical rides with Cinderella in her carriage. The season kicks off with <em>\u201cFrozen\u201d<\/em> on Friday, December 4 in Cedar Beach Park, beginning at 7pm. A special meet &amp; greet with characters Ana and Elsa is scheduled for 6pm. The series continues with <em>\u201cThe Polar Express\u201d<\/em> on Wednesday, Dece<span data-term=\"goog_820545393\">mber 9 at 7pm at Civic<\/span> Theatre; <em>\u201cHow the Grinch Stole Christmas\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201cFrosty the Snowman\u201d<\/em> <span data-term=\"goog_820545394\">on <\/span>Saturday, December 12 at 5:15pm in the Arts Park; <em>\u201cA Christmas Story\u201d<\/em> on Saturday, December 19 at 4pm &amp; 6pm at the Arts Park; and <em>\u201cElf\u201d<\/em> on Saturday, December 26 at 4:30 &amp; 6:30pm at Cedar Beach Park.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to showing holiday movies, the Allentown Lights program will also feature concerts and special even<span data-term=\"goog_820545395\">ts. A special \u201cF<\/span>eliz N<span data-term=\"goog_820545396\">avidad\u201d<\/span> celebration is planned for Sunday, December 13 from 3:30 \u2013 6pm at the Arts Park, featuring a bilingual Santa, music, food, and dancing. Ho<span data-term=\"goog_820545397\">liday concerts are sc<\/span>heduled for We<span data-term=\"goog_820545398\">dnes<\/span>day, December 23 with James Supra Blues Band, Sara Ayers and Tim Harakal beginning at 6pm at PPL Plaza, and Wednesday, December 30 at 6pm in Cedar Beach Park, featuring UUU Party Band. Strolling performers and carolers will grace Hamilton Street and the Arts Walk on weekend evenings throughout the program. A special Jingle Bar Hop event will be held on Saturday, December 19, hosted by City Center. The pub crawl event begins at 3pm at the Allentown Brew Works.<\/p>\n<p>Downtown Allentown will host a special \u201cBlack Friday Preview Night\u201d when the light displays will only be turned on in the Arts Park, Arts Walk, and Hamilton Street on Friday, November 27 from 5p-9pm. City Center is hosting countdown nights to the start of the Allentown Lights program as well as the lights on Two and Three City Center changing colors on Monday, November 23 and Tuesday, November 24, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Businesses along Hamilton Street and the Arts Walk are participating in a Storefront Window Decorating Contest as part of the Allentown Lights program, hosted by City Center. Each business selected a holiday song to theme their decorations. Customers can vote for their favorite display at <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/citycenterlehighvalley\" target=\"_blank\">www.facebook.com\/citycenterlehighvalley<\/a><\/u>, in-store, or through an online survey. Pick-up a contest passport at any participating location, guess five window songs correctly, and drop your passport at any participating location to enter to win tickets for 17 to a suite at PPL Center for a Phantoms game!<\/p>\n<p>In continuing the tradition of the 6<sup>th<\/sup> Annual Lights in the Parkway 5K &amp; Walk, the city will again partner with Run Lehigh Valley to offer this unique opportunity to enjoy the displays on Wednesday, November 25.\u00a0 The course will be set-up in the area surrounding Cedar Beach Park.\u00a0 Runners will step-off at 7pm with the walkers following.\u00a0 Interested persons can register at <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runlehighvalley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.runlehighvalley.com\/<\/a><\/u>.\u00a0 Space is limited, and no race-day registration is available, so reserve your spot today!<\/p>\n<p>Allentown\u2019s Tree Lighting Ceremony, hosted by the Hamilton District Main Street Program and the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, will be held on Thursday, December 3 from 4pm\u20137pm at PPL Plaza pocket park.
