Allentown, PA – \u00a0Wednesday, February 19, 2020 <\/strong>– Leading affordable housing organization Habitat for Humanity of the Lehigh Valley is breaking ground on a new home construction project in Allentown. A formal groundbreaking ceremony will take place on February 19 at the construction site.<\/p>\n

This project will include the construction of eight twin homes on the 600 block of Tacoma Street in East Allentown, Lehigh County. The homes are expected to be completed over the next two years by Habitat Lehigh Valley construction staff, core construction volunteers, corporate volunteer groups, and future homeowners. The homes will provide safe and stable housing for hardworking, low-income homebuyers in the Lehigh Valley.<\/p>\n

Each Habitat homebuyer partners with Habitat Lehigh Valley to complete a minimum of 250 sweat equity hours per adult into the construction of their own home and the homes of their neighbors.<\/p>\n

Additionally, homeowners must meet financial guidelines and will pay an affordable, no-interest mortgage on their homes. For these future homeowners, owning a safe and decent home will allow them the financial freedom to invest in healthcare, education, and saving for stable futures.<\/p>\n

This project is funded by the following sponsors, including the City of Allentown HOME funds, Lehigh County Affordable Housing Trust Fund, Thrivent Financial, the Harry C. Trexler Trust, and Santander Bank. One of the eight homes will be the 2020 Thrivent Faith Build home, and will be partially funded and constructed by local churches and faith groups.<\/p>\n
