New community healing center to host Family Recovery Day

Bethlehem, PA – August 28, 2019- In recognition of National Recovery Month, the Oasis Community Center announced today it will be hosting a Family Recover Day for the Lehigh Valley on September 14, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at their center located at 3410 Bath Pike in Bethlehem. The Family Recovery Day will include a wide array of speaker meetings, resources, music from John Thomas, refreshments, and door prizes.

The Oasis Community Center was created to provide a nurturing environment that includes support programs aimed specifically at families and loved ones who have experienced the tragedy of a drug related loss, or are impacted by a loved one’s active substance use. The center’s founder, Rhonda Miller, understands the void in family support all too well, having lost her son Ben to opioid addiction three years ago. “The mental, physical, and emotional stress to support a loved one suffering from substance abuse can last for years, continually redefining an ever-changing “new normal” for the families and loved ones” said Rhonda Miller, Oasis Community Center Executive Director.

Family Recovery Day at the Oasis Community Center will feature a discussion with Rebecca West Hensinger, Mrs. Pennsylvania America 2019, as she shares her personal story of family recover for the first time. Representatives from the following resources and support groups will also be available:

  • Al-Anon Family Group
  • Nar-Anon Family Group
  • Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACA)
  • Codependents Anonymous (CoDA)
  • Bethlehem Parent and Family Support Group
  • Family and Friends Grief Support Group

The Oasis Community Center offers fun, holistic activities including classes on cooking, art, scrapbooking, yoga and mindfulness. Their staff and volunteers are specifically trained as Family Recovery Specialists. Free support groups including Grief Therapy, Bethlehem Parent and Family Support, Al-Anon, Nar-Anon, ACA and CoDA will be held on a weekly basis. Additionally, a monthly support group will be offered for Family and Friends needing Grief Support. Oasis Community Center is a drop-in center, open Monday through Friday from noon to 5:00pm, and by appointment.
