Greater Wilson Area – LINCS Family Center received $30,000 in funding from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to reduce violence in the community served by the Wilson Area School District.
The violence prevention programming will build upon a previous grant that funded the mobilization of a Communities That Care coalition within the Wilson Area School District community. The purpose of the coalition is to combine resources and strategies to work together to help address youth issues in the greater Wilson area.
LINCS Family Center in partnership with the coalition plans to develop an evidence-based youth prevention program to address risk factors and increase protective factors for our youth. Using the Communities That Care (CTC) model, the goal is to reduce delinquency and prevent youth violence within the community.
By collaborating with community partners, the coalition will focus on physical, emotional, and mental well-being to help students gain a sense of belonging within their community.
The Wilson Area Communities That Care Coalition community board currently has over 30 active members including representatives from CONCERN, St. Luke’s University Health Network, Valley Youth House, Community BikeWorks, Kellyn Foundation, the Wilson Area School District, Magellan Health, Center for Humanistic Change, and district parents and residents.
Organizations and individuals who are interested in learning more or joining the work of the coalition are encouraged to email LINCS@wilsonareasd.org or call 484-373-6200.
The LINCS Family Center is committed to providing a compassionate and sensitive community resource that empowers Wilson Area School District families by linking them to direct, comprehensive programs addressing social, emotional and physical well-being, educational assistance, and resources needed to raise healthy children and enhance the quality of life of all residents.
