Limited edition, commemorative holiday gift tradition features local artist’s work

Bethlehem, PA (November 28, 2023) – Local artist Mary Jane Lahr painted a delicate watercolor portrait of Historic Hotel Bethlehem kissed with a dusting of snow and festooned with classic red and green garlands for this year’s limited edition peppermint bark tin and holiday ornament. “It’s stunning,” said Bruce Haines, Historic Hotel Bethlehem’s Managing Partner. “Mary Jane did a fabulous job painting a classic Bethlehem winter scene. The print looks absolutely elegant topping the golden candy boxes and just as beautiful on the hotel’s annual commemorative ornaments hand painted by artist Peter Priess.”

Limited edition peppermint bark tins typically sell out in weeks

This is the ninth year the hotel has released limited edition commemorative peppermint bark tins each filled with eight peppermint bark bars from A.L. Bazzini Company, a Lehigh Valley-based confectioner. “The way the dark chocolate and the white layer melt along with the candy cane crunch is divine. It’s just not the Christmas season until you’ve had your first bite of peppermint bark,” said JoAnn Haines, Director of Merchandising and Historic Hotel Bethlehem Managing Partner. “It’s no surprise that they sell out every year.”

Tins are available exclusively in person at The Shoppe. They are $23 each and supplies are extremely limited, with only about 600 available. This year, Bazzini Vice President Carrie Madigan, along with Lahr, and Mr. Haines added a special touch by autographing the commemorative tins. “The tins are a perfect gift for family, friends, or even professional colleagues. Since we debuted these tins in 2014, many people have said they include them on their gift lists every year,” said Kelly Ronalds, Director of Room Sales and Guest Experience at the hotel.

Collectors look forward to annual ornament release
The annual Historic Hotel Bethlehem ornament release is just as popular as the candy box. Every year since 2011, Austrian painter Peter Priess has hand painted hundreds of custom ornaments just for the local landmark. “This is absolutely a labor of love,” said Linda Fiegel, Manager of The Shoppe at Historic Hotel Bethlehem. “I think that love is part of the reason why the tin and ornament have become such beloved gift traditions over the past decade.” Visitors can pick up their ornament at The Shoppe for $32.

For those who want to enjoy Lahr’s art in a larger format, they can purchase the holiday print as matted and framed wall art in 8X10 or 11X14 sizes.
