Young People Discuss Mental Health in Latest Healing Magazine from KidsPeace

SCHNECKSVILLE, PA (June 5, 2024) – The latest issue of KidsPeace’s Healing Magazine focuses on giving a platform to views on the mental health of America’s youth from a group sometimes ignored in the discussion:  young people themselves.

The magazine’s special Spotlight section, “Are You Listening? Youth Voices on Mental Health,” features a mosaic of observations and opinions from middle school and high school students.  To find contributors, KidsPeace partnered with Aevidum and Bring Change 2 Mind, organizations which work to create student-led awareness initiatives to break down the stigma and silence about mental health among children and young people.

Articles in the special section include:

  • A Q&A-type dialogue on students’ experiences with mental health issues and what they think needs to be done to address them appropriately
  • Perspectives from young adults affiliated with the “Bring Change 2 Mind” organization, on managing their mental health and education journeys in the post-pandemic era
  • Views about managing good mental health from middle-school students – highlighted by their wise-beyond-their-years insights about healthy activities outside the classroom
  • Information about an awareness project spearheaded by a local United Way agency and based on the concerns expressed by youth through the Aevidum organization.

The latest issue also includes insights about preventing school shootings from Peter Langman, an internationally recognized expert on the subject.  Dr. Langman will be the featured presenter at KidsPeace’s 26th Annual Conference, “Keeping Our Kids Safe: Addressing Gun Violence on a Systems and Individual Level,” to be held on the organization’s Orchard Hills Campus on October 9, 2024 (for information about the conference, check out the National Conference page on kidspeace.org).

The Spring/Summer edition also offers perspectives on the mental health support under-represented communities need, and on the ways to define “success” in residential treatment programs.

Twice a year, Healing Magazine delivers thought-provoking information and perspectives that address issues of importance to children’s professionals, therapists, educators, parents, and others who have an interest in seeing kids grow, thrive and succeed in life.  The Spring/Summer edition and its articles are available now at www.healingmagazine.org – where readers also can subscribe to the print version of the magazine for free.
