Allentown, Pa. — Lehigh County Authority (LCA) is asking customers to take immediate steps to conserve water and remain alert for signs of potential leaks as system demand remains elevated across the Allentown service area.

Over the past several days, water demand has increased beyond typical seasonal levels. While LCA crews are actively working to identify and repair leaks throughout the system, continued high demand is limiting the ability to fully restore reservoir levels. Currently, the system remains operational, but proactive conservation is critical to maintaining reliable service.

Field crews have already made repairs at known leak locations and additional teams are continuing system wide inspections. While the situation is not currently an emergency, it has the potential to escalate without public cooperation.

How customers can help right now:

  • Reduce non-essential water use, including excessive laundry, car washing, and unnecessary outdoor water use.
  • Check homes and businesses for leaks, including running toilets, dripping faucets, and malfunctioning appliances.
  • If you are running water to prevent pipe freezing, try other methods like heat tape or heating the area where you have exposed pipes.
  • If you own multiple properties, especially any vacant properties, check them for burst pipes and call LCA to have the water shut off immediately.
  • Be alert for signs of water leaks in your neighborhood. Water visible in the street or ground should not be assumed to be snow or ice melt, especially during cold weather. It may indicate an underground leak.
  • Report suspected leaks immediately to LCA so crews can respond quickly.

“Even small actions by individual customers make a meaningful difference when demand is elevated,” said Liesel Gross, LCA’s Chief Executive Officer. “Our crews are working around the clock, but we need the public’s help to protect system reliability for everyone.”

Customers can report suspected leaks by calling LCA Customer Service at 610-437-7515 or emailing service@lehighcountyauthority.org.

LCA will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates as needed.
