Bethlehem, PA. – May 11, 2020 – Lehigh Valley Public Media™, home of PBS39, will broadcast a new one-hour special, Coping During COVID-19: Children And Trauma, to discuss how families and organizations are working to build resilience during this global crisis. Specific topics will include: mental health of both students and parents, equity in education and behavioral resources.

“We understand in the context of a global pandemic, that people across our community are having an extremely hard time, especially those who have children at home. We want to provide them with the resources to help them feel at ease as they navigate various challenges this new normal is presenting,” said Yoni Greenbaum, Chief Content Officer at Lehigh Valley Public Media.

This special, which will also air on PBS member stations across the state, will be hosted by Reporter Corps® member Ben Stemrich. He’ll be talking with experts from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN), Valley Youth House, IU20 and IU21.

“This partnership is crucial to ensuring that our families, students, and educators have the opportunity to access quality and timely educational content to help them navigate these unprecedented times. The ability to collaborate with PBS allows us the opportunity to continue to connect to educational communities and provide educational resources to ensure positive academic, behavioral and social-emotional supports in an accessible platform,” said Nikole Hollins-Sims, Equity Consultant, PDE and Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN).

The Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Education Secretary Pedro Rivera also commented on this partnership.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted every area of our lives – especially those of our students. The Pennsylvania Department of Education is happy to collaborate with our partners around the state to ensure our communities and families receive valuable information about how we can collectively continue to serve students’ educational, social, and emotional needs while we as Pennsylvanians navigate this challenge together.”

The special will dedicate part of the hour to panel discussion, as well as a block of the hour to fielding questions via phone, email and social media.

Coping During COVID-19: Children And Trauma will air Thursday, May 14, at 7 p.m. You can also catch the livestream of the show on our Facebook page or at PBS39.org/ChildrenAndCOVID.
