SEMANA DE SABOR

The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce presents Hispanic Restaurant Week to promote Latinx/Latino/Afro-Latino/Hispanic restaurants and raise awareness of Hispanic Heritage Month, this will take place September 15-21, 2021.

Lehigh Valley, PA – The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, has created an initiative to help Latino, Afro-Latino, Latinx, Hispanic-owned restaurants market their food services while kicking off Hispanic Heritage month! While this week is open to all Hispanic Restaurants, we do have a list of restaurants participating with specials that can be found on our Hispanic Chamber of the Greater Lehigh Valley webpage: www.thehispanicchamber.org

HISTORICAL CONTEXT: “The timing of Hispanic Heritage Month coincides with the Independence Day celebrations of several Latin American nations. September 15 was chosen as the kickoff because it coincides with the Independence Day celebrations of five “Central American neighbors,” as Johnson called them—Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Those five nations declared their independence from Spain on September 15, 1821.” –History.com

Semana de Sabor, Hispanic Restaurant Week will focus on Hispanic-owned and operated by entrepreneurs that serve diverse Hispanic food in the Lehigh Valley. There are no fees to participate and restaurants do not have to be members of The Chamber. The goal of the week is to help bring awareness to the diverse array of Hispanic food establishments in the Lehigh Valley and highlight their heritage during this celebratory month.

“We are excited to help boost business for the Hispanic-owned restaurants in the community,” said Azalea Chacón, Coordinator, Diversity Councils of The Chamber. “We are also using this as an opportunity to raise awareness of Hispanic Heritage Month and its history. It’s long overdue, we need to transfer the energy that was used to celebrate Cinco de Mayo to Hispanic Heritage Month, and spread the love amongst all Hispanic cultures.”
