The Latino Leadership Alliance of the Lehigh Valley is pleased to announce this year’s Nuestro Futuro Gala will be held at the Steel Club in Hellertown, PA on Veteran’s Day, Friday, November 11th, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The keynote speaker will be Ms. Rachel Leon, Bethlehem City Council member.  Ms. Leon is a native of Bethlehem and a 9-year veteran of the US Navy.  She is also a recent graduate of Northampton Community College with a degree in Global Studies (Environmental Studies Concentration). Ms. Leon was sworn into Bethlehem City Council in January of this year making her part of the first female majority city council in the city’s 105-year history.

Not only are we very excited to bring this event back after a hiatus but, we are pleased to be taking the opportunity to honor our local Latino/a/x veterans.

Each year, our organization raises money to award $500 scholarships to Latino/a/x youth and adults accepted by the college or trade school of their choice. Last October at “Nuestro Futuro” Brunch, we presented 17 scholarships to Lehigh Valley residents with a value of $8,500.  Our goal this year is to raise $15000, which will be enough for 30 scholarships.

This gala is our only fundraiser for the year.  With your support we can not only hold this event and raise money for the scholarship, but you will also be helping us with the scholarship brunch.  The Scholarship Brunch will take place in the summer of 2023 and is the event at which the scholarships are presented to the recipients.  Sponsors are invited to come present the scholarships in person to the students.

Why should you sponsor scholarships for local Latino/a/x students?  First, level of education is directly tied to level of income. If we want to break cycles of poverty in the Lehigh Valley and in particular, our cities, we need to raise the level of education of our families. Second, your sponsorship is vital in assisting us accomplish our goal of facilitating higher education for young adults.

Through the scholarship program, not only are we able to provide scholarships, but this is what we hear from our recipients:  “Receiving this scholarship motivates me to work harder toward my goal.  I look forward to being able to give back to the community…”  “With this scholarship I will be able to pay part of my tuition.  I will never forget your generosity.” “Thank you very much to LLALV and to the Latino community that gives us so much support.  I wish to be directly involved and active with this community now as a professional and in that way be able to help others in their growth.”

A survey of students at the end of their scholarship year, confirmed their success and motivation.  The average grade point average of our respondents is 3.47.

Please take this opportunity to read the enclosed sheet which explains the various levels of sponsorship. As you review the attachment, please note that this year our sponsorship levels provide your organization the opportunity to sponsor two events: the Scholarship gala and the “Nuestro Futuro” Brunch. At the Brunch, you or a designated official will be called to award the scholarship(s) to the recipient(s). Additionally, you/your organization will be recognized at both events through our program booklets. This will give you double exposure, and publicly note your support of education for deserving students. We believe you can recognize the visibility that these events provide for your organization.
