“Cheap Trick in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. How about that.” Rick Nielsen

It was a beautiful day in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. I arrived at the newly renovated Wind Creek Event Center. It looks beautiful outside and inside. The Wind Creek Event Center has been home to some of the best concerts.

Let’s discuss Cheap Trick for a moment. Cheap Trick is a rock band from Rockford, Illinois. Cheap Trick was  formed in 1973 by guitarist Rick Nielsen. Robin Zander is lead vocals, Dax Nielsen on drums, Tom Petersson on bass guitar. Robin Taylor Zander also performed lead vocals and guitar. He has a new solo album out.

Cheap Trick started off the show with no opening act. They started with “Hello There.”  Cheap Trick is certainly in a league of their own. Fans were excited, and you could feel the energy flowing through the Wind Creek Event Center. The staff and security was courteous and helpful as always.

Cheap Trick performed such iconic hits as “Dream Police” (1979) and “I Want You To Want Me” (1982). The songs feel just as vibrant to so many people today as the day were released. I was able to chat with a few of the Cheap Trick fans, and they reminisced about song like “I Want You To Want Me,” “Mighty Wings,” “Ain’t That A Shame,” and “Surrender.”

The fans were excited to hear these songs live. Concerts deliver that exubrating feeling of hearing a song you loved your whole life… You hear the band that wrote the song, recorded the song, and is now performing the song for the millionth time in front a crowd that is just as excited. Thats something you can keep with you always. Songs mean something different to each person. My section was excited, and singing along. We sang, we collectively did some air drumming, and some air guitar was happening. The crowd was lively. It was great. Cheap Trick interacted with the fans and of course we all sang the breakdown part of “I Want You To Want Me” together.

Rick Nielsen reminded everyone we were there to have fun. He came out with several different guitars, including the “Gonna Raise Hell” guitar, a saxophone shaped guitar, a guitar with The Beatles on it.

Cheap Trick rocked Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.  They finished the show, and said goodnight to the fans but they came back for an encore. That’s what a great chanting of “one more song” and positive cheering does.

Cheap Trick performed “The Flame,” and the fans in Bethlehem brought the lights out. (They understood the assignment. It’s a lighter song!) You could tell the die hard Cheap Trick fans. They wanted to hear everything but the hits.

Cheap Trick delivered with a little bit of everything and the true musicians they are. THEY ROCKED BETHLEHEM.
