Washington, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Ryan Mackenzie, representing the Greater Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania’s 7th district, testified before the House Ways and Means Committee today, highlighting tax priorities to reduce financial burdens on working families and empower parents and children to succeed.
“In recent years, families in the Greater Lehigh Valley and across the country have faced rising costs, stagnant wages, and mounting financial challenges,” said Congressman Mackenzie. “During my testimony, I highlighted ways we can reduce these burdens through targeted tax relief, from helping parents with childcare and family leave to supporting those looking to grow their families through adoption or IVF.”
During his testimony, Congressman Mackenzie outlined a series of proposals aimed at supporting working families, including:
Expanding Paid Family and Medical Leave: Doubling and making permanent the employer family and medical leave tax credit to encourage businesses to offer paid family leave.
Providing Childcare Tax Credits: Doubling existing tax credit to offset the cost of childcare, easing the financial burden for working parents.
Increasing the Child Tax Credit: Raising the credit to $5,000 (currently $2,000) to help alleviate the high costs facing parents.
Supporting Adoption and IVF: Expanding the Adoption Tax Credit to $25,000 (currently $16,810) and creating a matching credit for IVF expenses to help families grow.
The testimony reflects Congressman Mackenzie’s priorities for the 119th Congress, with a focus on alleviating the financial pressures on working families while strengthening economic opportunities in the Greater Lehigh Valley and across the nation. Watch the full remarks here.
