Nineteen High School Choreographers will showcase their work in Young Choreographers in Concert

BETHLEHEM, PA—-(May 6-7,2017)  The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts (Charter Arts) will present its 2017 Young Choreographers in Concert (YCC) on May 6 & 7th in the Charter Arts Theatre, located on the school’s campus at 321 East 3rd Street, Bethlehem.  Matinee performances on May 6 & 7 at 2pm. An evening performance on May 6 at 7pm.

YCC is the culminating event, or final exam, for the Senior Dance Composition course.  Each senior student creates original choreography that is cohesively based on a theme of their choosing and brings it to fruition by setting the work on their peers in their Young Choreographers Practicum Elective. This year, nineteen choreographers will showcase their work.  These young dance makers work for months to conceptualize, create, teach and rehearse their pieces.

Concert director, Amy Berry says, “YCC is an invaluable opportunity for students to find their creative selves and to see an artistic process through from conception to the stage.  A physical and visual expression of the students’ inner feeling and interests that is always an exciting and entertaining surprise to watch!”

Some themes being explored by students this year include:  metamorphosis as in human development as well as butterfly development, the external effects of drug addiction and the helplessness the friends and family of the addicted feel, how humans today only know how to connect through technology and have lost our ability to communicate in person, lucid dreaming is explored, existential crisis, Tourette Syndrome, the struggle one feels when their body ages and becomes limited but their brain is still fully functioning, survival and the ability the ability to transcend life experiences and carry on, and the importance of human touch.

Tickets are $12 for adult, $10 for student/senior and can be ordered online at www.CharterArts.org or call 610-868-2971.
