Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer To Host Red Card Cancer Street Soccer At SteelStacks Oct. 5

Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer is partnering with ArtsQuest to bring Red Card Cancer Street Soccer to the 8th annual Oktoberfest at SteelStacks presented by the Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE). The event, set for Oct. 5, is free and open to youth players aged 9-16. Families who attend are encouraged to donate to Red Card Cancer, a soccer-based cancer research charity.

“Street soccer is about breaking down barriers and showing kids that they can play no matter what level or location,” Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Grassroots Soccer Manager JT Dorsey said. “It’s both an enjoyable and educational experience for all who attend. Sports are meant to be fun. They’re not always meant to be formalized.”

Red Card Cancer Street Soccer will run from 5:00-8:00 PM with the famous blast furnaces of Bethlehem Steel as a backdrop. Check in starts at 4:30 PM. Teams will be formed prior to the start of each game so that everyone plays with everyone. Games will be 3v3 and run for about 12 minutes. Players will be rewarded for results as well as sportsmanship. In addition to game play, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer will set up both its soccer inflatables—a soccer dart board and a shooting challenge—and run a juggling contest. There will be prizes and a raffle for participants.

Walk-ups are welcome, but all who wish to attend are encouraged to RSVP at EPYSA.org.

“Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer has been a great partner for our youth programming at the SoccerFest viewing parties at SteelStacks in recent years, so we’re thrilled that they’ll be joining us with this new event at Oktoberfest this fall,” says ArtsQuest Chief Operating Officer Curt Mosel. “In addition to presenting a fun sport and activity for the kids, we are excited to work with Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer to help them raise funds to support cancer awareness and research through Red Card Cancer.”
