Interview with Singer/Songwriter Melody Cruz

Melody Cruz is a force to be reckoned with. She is a singer, songwriter, performer. Melody is so talented, she writes her own music, she has several events coming up. Make sure to stay up to date with Melody’s website for event information. Melody will also be a part of Musikfest 2022. You can check out Melody’s singles, “TooLate” and “Make Me Stay.”

Hi Melody, how did you get started in music?

Melody– I have been singing before I can talk. I would mimic my mom; my mom was a singer. So, both of my parents met through music. My dad started building his own studio as a teenager because his passion was recording and producing. His brother said there is a girl that goes to our school, and she sings. That was my mom. When my parents had me, they named me Melody intentionally. They said I was going to sing, and they were right.

How long was your mom a singer? Does she still sing?

Melody– She doesn’t sing anymore; she still can sing but she considers herself retired from singing. She is a nurse practitioner, and that’s her career. My mom sang from the age of 16 until 25, for about ten years she was singing a lot.

What’s your favorite aspect, or is there a favorite moment of performing?

Melody– My favorite moment is when I’m singing and I feel like I’ve infiltrated myself into the audience. When people start enjoying the music. That moment when the audience tunes in. It makes me happy because it makes me feel like I made a difference.

What projects do you have planned?

Melody– My plan is to release around ten singles, and then write maybe five more. Then I want to take all those singles and release an album.

What do you want to say to everyone that is listening to your music, and the people that will be attending the show?

Melody– I don’t want to sound cliché, it’s so easy to make it sound like that. I want everyone to know that everybody you see in life is going through something. My goal is that when I see people, I want us all to escape for a little bit. I want to be there for them through my music.

What advice or words of wisdom would you offer?

Melody– I would say take my advice with a grain of salt because I’m still learning. I would say people will connect with what you create, when it comes from an organic place.

Melody, thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me for The Valley Ledger. You are so talented. I love music. It’s part of life, its soul changing. Thank you.

Melody– Thank you, Janel.
