Master Gardener Kokedama Workshop

Lehigh Valley, Pa – You are invited to attend a Kokedama workshop presented by the Lehigh Valley Master Gardeners on May 6, 2023, from 10 am – Noon at the Northampton County Penn State Extension office, 14 Gracedale Ave, Nazareth PA. Kokedama is a centuries-old Japanese garden form of growing plants in a decorative moss ball, like Bonsai. You will learn its history and how to make your very own Kokedama to take home and watch a demonstration on how to propagate sphagnum moss. This rain or shine event will take place outside under a pavilion. Attendees will learn how to make a Kokedama and bring home a finished Kokedama complete with a plant.

Attendees should bring the following materials:

  • 1 – bucket – to mix soil and carry water, a small watering can, if available
  • 1- 6-8″ deep bowl (like a big soup bowl)
  • 1 – heavy duty scissors, pruning shear, or pocketknife to cut the string
