‘Easton Alfresco’ kicks off this Saturday, May 7

EASTON, PA – May 5, 2022 – There’s something magical about the warmer weather that draws people outside for a range of activities, including dining in the sunshine and under the stars. It became even more popular in the past two years with demand for outdoor dining growing each summer as the days get longer and the temperatures go up.

This spring, summer, and fall, the City of Easton is bringing back its Outdoor Dining Expanded Program for restaurants. The program was started by Mayor Sal Panto Jr. in 2020 during the height of the pandemic as a way to support restaurant owners by expanding their outdoor seating areas. The program became popular with business owners and diners alike, so it was continued last year.

For year three, the city has given the program a brand – Easton Alfresco – with the creation of a new logo (see above) and marketing materials by West Ward’s Kudu Creative, led by Sarah Clark, and a promotional campaign to build awareness and draw people to the city. Easton Alfresco officially kicks off this coming Saturday, May 7, rain or shine.

Restaurants throughout the city were invited to apply to participate in the Outdoor Dining Expanded Program. In preparation for the launch, the City’s Department of Public Works placed cement jersey walls in parking spaces in front of or alongside of participating restaurants to cordon off their expanded outdoor dining areas. (A separate city codes and zoning program governs sidewalk dining setups.)

While the restaurants which are participating in the 2022 Outdoor Dining Expanded Program (see list below) represent only a portion of those that exist in the city, the Easton Alfresco marketing campaign was created to promote ALL city restaurants that offer some form of outdoor dining, whether on a patio, deck, or sidewalk. The Easton Alfresco website lists more than 30 city restaurants with outdoor dining facilities in order to assist diners and visitors in finding and reviewing all of the options. www.eastonalfresco.com

Here is a list of the restaurants participating in the 2022 Outdoor Dining Expanded Program (expanded dining areas in parking spaces):

  • Porters’ Pub
  • River Grille

Easton Alfresco will be promoted across the region from now through the program’s conclusion at the end of October on the city’s three social media outlets (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), its web site, its monthly municipal enewsletter, on a billboard at Rt. 22 and 25th St., wraps on the cement jersey walls, and in select Lehigh Valley media outlets.
