The day started as cloudy at Goodman Stadium as The Mountain Hawks took on the Holy Cross Crusaders Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks wasted no time, within five minutes of the first quarter they scored two touchdowns with two accompanying field goals for a solid lead of 14-0. Fueled with hope and anticipation, this became one of those games where most spectators remained on the edge of their seats throughout the game.
The Mountain Hawks defense successfully prevented the Crusaders from scoring in the first quarter, but early in the second quarter, the Crusaders hit the scoreboard not once, but twice to bring the score dead even, 14-14. The battle continued through the quarter, right down to the last minute, as the Mountain Hawks scored a touch down and field goal brought the score to 21-14. But then the  Crusaders managed to tie the game up, literally with seconds to spare before halftime to 21-21.
Emotions ran high as the teams returned to the field for the third quarter.  The sun emerged through deep clouds. After a failed touchdown attempt halfway through the third quarter, the Mountain Hawks were able to add a field goal, which brought the score to 24-21. With less than four minutes left in the quarter, the Crusaders scored another touchdown and field goal, with a score of 24-28.
The fourth quarter remained scoreless. Both teams aggressively moved down the field, each preventing the other team from scoring. It was a Holy Cross victory, with the final score of 24-28 over Lehigh University.
Next week, the Mountain Hawks take on Colgate in Hamilton, New York.  The big game, Lehigh vs Lafayette is two weeks away!
