Unwrap new surprises and traditions at two Bethlehem tree lighting ceremonies



 

Bethlehem to host back to back tree lighting events, debut new elements this year

Bethlehem, PA (November 20, 2023) – In a true embracing of celebration of Christmas City spirit, Bethlehem is hosting back-to-back tree lighting ceremonies this year. “We double dog dare you to attend them both,” laughed Tammy Wending, Senior Vice President of Bethlehem Initiatives for the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce. “Christmas is for all of Bethlehem and we’re working hard to show off the holiday fun that everyone can enjoy throughout the entire city.”

Bethlehem’s Payrow Plaza tree lighting returns to Black Friday
The Citizen’s Christmas City Committee will host the first tree lighting on November 24 in Payrow Plaza. “The community is excited for this event to return to Black Friday. We had to make some schedule changes during the pandemic, but we’re thrilled to bring back this day-after-Thanksgiving tradition,” said Wendling. Gates will open at 4 p.m. A prelude begins at 4:30 and the formal ceremony starts at 5.

Unwrapping tree lighting firsts on the North Side

This year’s program will include an expanded stage and extended time. It will be half an hour longer than ever before with extra entertainment including an ethereal presentation by Touchstone Theatre featuring a great surprise.

Also, for the first time, the event will include wine and beer sales. Lost Tavern Brewing has brewed a special Christmas Beer and Franklin Hill Vineyards will be serving mulled wine.

A favorite element will remain. The Christmas Trellis will be decked out with ornaments honoring first responders.

Bethlehem’s SouthSide Arts District Lights Up With Holiday Cheer
“Be sure to save some Christmas spirit because the party continues Saturday night in Bethlehem’s SouthSide,” said Erin Zebertavage, SouthSide Arts District’s Downtown Manager.

The SouthSide Tree Lighting event begins at 5pm on the Bethlehem Greenway at 324 South New St.

The crowd will enjoy rocking holiday tunes from The Beautiful Distortion, a harmony-heavy melodic rock band. Complimentary warm cider will be served by Zest Bethlehem as well as cocoa and cookies from Roasted. Touchstone Theatre and Moravian University students will be spreading cheer with handmade holiday cards and a special surprise appearance.
