Lower Macungie Fire Department received a donation of $5000 on behalf of Doug “Tex” Wells. Family and friends, some traveling from Texas, were on hand to present Lower Macungie Fire Department’s volunteers with a check.

Former LMFD Fire Chief David Nosal met and became friends with Mr. Wells when “Tex” ran his BBQ stand “Tex’s Smokin’ BBQ” on route 309 in North Whitehall Twp. After closing his food truck business “Tex” moved back to Texas, where he passed away in December of 2023.

He knew David was fire chief of the LMFD and that he was a long time first responder for both fire and police. Wells always had an immensely strong support for first responders and the military. As a token of appreciation, of not only the friendship shared by David and “Tex”, but because of his admiration of those who serve others, he decided to include the LMFD in his will. Wells was not a resident of Lower Macungie Township but admired the selfless dedication of David and the department.

Tex’s Smokin’ BBQ was a popular food vender in the Lehigh Valley for many years, gaining recognition both for his location on Route 309 and for catering at various special events throughout the area.
