K9 Kimber to Sign in Service by Memorial Day Weekend

DORNEY PARK, Allentown, PA (May 11, 2016) –Through a partnership with South Whitehall Township, Dorney Park has sponsored a fully-trained, working canine. Kimber, a two year old Labrador retriever, will be the newest addition to the South Whitehall Township Police force.

The addition of Kimber will provide a highly visible, mobile and effective detection capability for South Whitehall officers. “Our team at Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom is dedicated to providing our guests with world-class thrills, fun and family entertainment, guided by the principles of safety, service, courtesy, cleanliness and integrity.  When South Whitehall Township presented this partnership opportunity to us, we recognized a unique opportunity to not only enhance our security within the Park but to enhance public safety within our community,” said Michael Fehnel, Vice President & General Manager of Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom.  Kimber has spent that last year and half in rigorous training programs, with the focus of the past five weeks being training with her handler, Officer Colin Beaumont.

Kimber will officially sign into service with the South Whitehall Police the last week of May.

South Whitehall Township officials presented Dorney Park executives with a proposal from Stapleton Security Inc. to acquire Kimber. As part of their agreement, Stapleton Security provided extensive training at their state-of-the-art training facility located in Marshalls Creek, Pennsylvania, which was built specifically to facilitate the unique and rigorous training infrastructure for explosive detection canines and handlers.

Through a cooperative agreement with South Whitehall Township, Dorney Park will have an increased patrol presence and security protections in place to provide the highest measures of safety for its guests. Kimber, and her handler, will be also be used to assist police departments throughout Lehigh County as needed.
