Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center To Partner With SBA For ‘Start Your Business’ Series

ALLENTOWN, PA — Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center today announces a partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration to provide free monthly workshops for community members interested in starting or growing a business.

The workshops are part of the SBA’s Business Smart Toolkit, which helps entrepreneurs understand the basics of business start-up, the essentials of becoming credit-ready, and how and where to find additional resources and support.

All workshops are offered at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center and are free for participants to attend. Community members are encouraged to RSVP in advance at https://bizsmartbradbury.eventbrite.com. Sponsors for the first four workshops (September through December 2016) include QNB, People First Federal Credit Union, and the LGBT Business Council of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. Workshops will be offered monthly, beginning in September 2016. The dates of the workshops in 2016 are September 28, October 26, November 16, and December 14 — each workshop will be held from 2-5pm.

Adrian Shanker, Executive Director of Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center, commented, “The LGBT community has lived through historic and cultural discrimination and disenfranchisement, and hasn’t always had access to information about how to start businesses, this workshop series is essential to ensure that members of our community have access to information and support as they pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.”

Antonio Leta, Eastern PA Director of the SBA said, “The Eastern PA District office of the U.S. Small Business Administration is excited to be in partnership with several Pennsylvania organizations to provide counseling and capital access to under-served business communities like the LGBT community. The Business Smart Toolkit is a great resource, providing a ready-to-use workshop toolkit that gives faith-based and community organizations tools to help new and aspiring entrepreneurs launch and build businesses that are credit ready.”
