Full STEM Ahead – BOOM BALLOON

Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics….in the BASD we nurture it all…and all with some of the finest, most committed teachers in Pennsylvania. Full STEM Ahead is a series put out by the BASD, which focuses on new topics for our younger students exploring STEM ideas, presented by some of our finest teachers.

Hydrochloric Acid + Zinc + a Flame = today’s AWESOME demonstration. Chemistry teacher Mr. Dusty Little demonstrates the Boom Balloon experiment, and the results are pretty exciting.

Eye on Elementary – Spring Garden Elementary School

The Bethlehem Area School District has 16 elementary schools, all in different locations, but all giving the same first class education. Every few weeks we focus on a new school and take a minute to show you what makes the school the special place that it is.

Today we take a look at Spring Garden Elementary with principal Eric Smith.

Healthy Tip from Michelle Martucci, RD, LDN

Dietician for Bethlehem Area School District

Children develop food preferences starting at a very young age (preschool or earlier). It’s important to offer a variety of healthy foods and limit junk food to develop healthy habits early on. Taste preferences can still change, but if the child gets continued exposure to healthy foods this will likely be the foods they select as they get older.

Baseball Umpires Needed

Bethlehem Umpires Association (BUA) is actively taking applications for baseball umpires! Whether you are an experienced umpire, or looking to break into the game as a rookie, we have the appropriate level for you.

We offer a competitive level of play for all levels of experience and the opportunity to umpire throughout the greater Lehigh Valley area. Our organization officiates over 1500+ games for Little League, Travel Teams, Connie Mack, Youth Legion, and LVMSBL (Men’s League) from April until November.

Take your passion for sports and turn it into a part time avocation that will enable you to give back to the community. We accept members starting at 16 and offer education, training and mentorships to improve your skills and obtain higher level games as you gain more experience.

If you are an experienced umpire and you would like to try to get involved in a group we would love to hear from you.

We meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month from February through September, contact us today through our website (www.bethump.org) or email us at bethumpassoc@gmail.com for more information! We look forward to speaking with you soon about umpiring for the BUA.
