United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley Seeks Nonprofit Leaders for 2018 Harvard Fellowship Program

Allentown, PA – United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley is seeking nonprofit leaders for the 2018 Harvard Fellowship Program.

Leaders of the Lehigh Valley’s human service nonprofits are eligible to apply for a fellowship to the prestigious Harvard Business School’s Strategic Perspectives in Non-Profit Management program from July 15 to 21, 2018. This program, valued at $6,250, is possible thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor and United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley. The application deadline is Friday, March 23, 2018.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Candidate must be a Lehigh Valley-based CEO, President or Executive Director of a human service nonprofit with a budget in the range of $500,000 to $10 million (strongly prefer over $1 million)
  • Candidate must be responsible for shaping organizational direction, mission, policies and major programs and must meet Harvard’s program admission criteria
  • Candidate must have a minimum of two years of experience working in their current role
  • Organizations must be fully operational with a minimum of 5-6 full-time employees

The fellowship funds tuition, books, case materials, accommodations and meals. The fellow will learn and benefit from the workshop on behalf of his or her organization and will share their new knowledge with nonprofit executives in the Lehigh Valley.  Past attendees used their experience at Harvard to make significant improvements to their organizations.  Lin Erickson, the 2014 Harvard Fellowship recipient and Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Da Vinci Science Center said, “The most interesting aspect of the program is the people you meet. People attend from around the world bringing a diverse international perspective to the program.  We compare notes with large and small nonprofits about the challenges and opportunities they face and learn from their experiences.”

As a result of the fellowship, we are building a network of alumni who are invited to meet occasionally to share information and successes.  In January 2017, the Harvard Fellowship recipient group met for an informal lunch and discussion.  United Way will continue to form a network to support nonprofit executives in the Lehigh Valley.
