This Two-Day course will take place November 17-18, 2025

Northampton Community College (NCC) is empowering skilled workers and building direct pathways to employment through a collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Sumitomo Electric Lightwave. Together, they’re hosting a free Fiber Optic Fusion Splicing Certificate Course at the college November 17–18, designed to train workers for in-demand, high-tech jobs in fiber optic installation and repair.

The course is a two-day training combining classroom instruction and hands-on learning in fiber optic installation, testing, and repair. It is open to anyone interested in entering the fiber optic industry and learning this specialized skill.

The program will conclude with a certificate reception and networking event, bringing together participants, local employers, and industry leaders. By linking students directly to hiring partners, the training opens clear pathways to employment and long-term growth within the technology workforce. Just last month, Amazon announced Future Ready 2030, a $2.5 billion commitment to expand access to education and skills training and help prepare at least 50 million people for the future of work.

Fiber optic cables are the backbone of the modern world, carrying internet, TV, and telephone data. Because they’re made up of tiny glass tubes, repairing and testing them requires specialized training. These skills are increasingly essential to build the networks powering 5G, cloud infrastructure, and data centers. AWS has partnered with Sumitomo Electric Lightwave to host free Fusion Splicing Certificate Courses at colleges across the United States.

Interested participants must register at: https://fiber-aws.pearson.com/fusion-splicing-registration
