Bethlehem, PA– January 27, 2021 – The National Educational Telecommunications Association announced during a virtual ceremony that Lehigh Valley Public Media™ has won five national awards. These awards honor excellence in COVID-19 community engagement, in-person learning events, news and public affairs, special events and integrated media campaigns.

Lehigh Valley Public Media was recognized for the following initiatives: In the category of in-person learning events, summer series; in the category of COVID-19 community engagement; It’s Camp!; in the category of news and public affairs, PBS39 News Tonight; in the category of special events, Sesame Street 50th; and lastly, in the category of integrated media campaign, PBS39 was included as a partner in the Pennsylvania PBS collaborative initiative, Battling Opioids.

“I continue to be proud of our entire organization and impressed as our team members are recognized for their work,” said Tim Fallon, Chief Executive Officer of Lehigh Valley Public Media. “We understand the importance of education through public media and how it affects the lives of our members and viewers. Especially this year, we remain steadfast in our mission to inspire, inform and educate our community.”

The NETA Awards, (now the Public Media Awards), honors members’ achievements in education, community engagement, marketing/communication, independent production, overall excellence and content.

“Congratulations to all of this year’s nominees and awardees,” said NETA president Eric Hyyppa. “Every year, for the past 52 years, these awards have celebrated excellence in public media. This year, that excellence was amplified by your profoundly creative and inspired responses to multiple crises. All across the country, public media stations rose to the moment and served their communities during their time of critical need. Well done!”

With the exception of the overall excellence categories, stations competed within their appropriate divisions based on their station size. Awards were judged by a group of expert panelists from within the public media system, as well as industry professionals working outside of public media.
