HARRISBURG –Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Berks/Lehigh) will host his Spring Shredder Event on Saturday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lower Macungie Township Complex parking lot (outside Mackenzie’s district office). The address is 3402 Brookside Road, Macungie.

“In an ongoing effort to combat identity theft, I encourage everyone in the area to take advantage of this free service,” said Mackenzie. “These events always attract a lot of people who realize the importance of protecting their personal information by shredding paperwork that contains birth dates, Social Security numbers, bank account information and other sensitive or identifying information.”

During the shredder event, the public is invited to shred up to four boxes, the approximate size of carry-on luggage, of sensitive documents per vehicle. Constituents are asked to remain in their vehicles while staff unload the documents to be shredded.

These events are for items that contain information such as bank account or Social Security numbers. Residents are asked not to bring old phone books, magazines, birthday cards, folders, newspapers, junk mail, etc., as these items can be recycled at the curb. There is no need to remove staples or paper clips, but documents should be taken out of binders and notebooks.

Due to overwhelming popularity of these events, residents are reminded items for shredding will not be accepted before the start time, and each vehicle will be limited to four boxes/bags.

These events are for residents only. No businesses, please. For more information, call his district office at 610-965-9933.
