Business Community Hosts Event to Help Continue the Trend as Delta Variant Uncertainty Looms

BETHLEHEM, PA, August 19, 2021: On the heels of a prosperous Musikfest, Merchants in Historic Downtown Bethlehem are hopeful to continue their upward sales trends with this Summer’s Retail Week initiative, as they’re met with CDC recommendations to mask-up indoors, again. Many business owners in the Historic District have reported stronger sales at this time than they had in 2019. Suffering from a harsh 2020 and first 2 quarters of 2021, merchants are ready for a big retail push as they offer a week’s worth of savings, contests, and giveaways, along with hand sanitizer and masks.

“We had our first successful Retail Week earlier this year as we were climbing out of the holiday season. It was a great bump for our retailers in February, so we decided to have another week of savings.” says Tammy Wendling, Manager of the Downtown Bethlehem Association. “With the new variant and increase in Covid cases, maybe some ‘safe’ retail therapy is what we all need right now. As we continue to encourage everyone to shop local, our merchants continue to provide a safe environment for all their guests.”

An “Upload to Win” contest will also return to the Historic District. Shoppers can upload their receipts from their shopping trips throughout the week, to the Retail Week webpage. One lucky shopper will win an ultimate shopping spree that includes one gift certificate to each participating business.

Retail Week runs from August 21st through August 28th on Main & Broad Streets in Bethlehem’s Historic District.
