Allentown, PA (August 25, 2021) – Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley (BBBSLV) is excited to hold its first annual back to school night at its youth mentoring center. BBBSLV has partnered with local barbers and hairstylists to give haircuts to our current Little Brothers and Little Sisters. In addition, Sal’s Pizza will be donating pizza and DLP Realty donated backpacks with school supplies for any Little who attends.

“At BBBSLV it is important to us that all our youth go back to school fully prepared. Being able to bolster their confidence through haircuts and providing supplies so they are equipped to start the school year off right is just one way we are helping them along the path to graduating,” said Susan Bartels, CEO of BBBSLV.

The event will take place on Sunday, August 29th from 5pm to 7pm at our Youth Mentoring center at 41 S Carlisle Street, Allentown PA 18109. To date 20 Littles have signed up for this event.

Charles Seright is a barber at Hone & Strop Barber located in Bethlehem Pennsylvania. When he was approached to be a part of the event, he saw an opportunity to get involved in his community. “I felt the need to be a part of this Big Brothers Big Sisters program because I understand the importance of connecting with youth and gaining self-confidence and awareness through personal care.”

“I am truly honored to be a part of the Big Brother Big Sister Back to School event,” said Taheerah Newsome, Owner of Loxurious Hair Studio in Allentown. “This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and to engage with our youth. As a hairstylist, I understand the confidence that comes along with having a “fresh hairdo.” Therefore, I am grateful to be able to contribute to a student’s confidence as this new school years begins.”
