Participation Kits for the Interactive Community Event on Sale Now

Bethlehem, Pennsylvania (September 7, 2021) – An event designed to encourage safe, outdoor fun during business shutdowns and restrictions in 2020, will continue this year. Historic Downtown Bethlehem’s Scarecrow Showdown was such a big hit that the Downtown Bethlehem Association (DBA) decided to make it an annual event. DBA Manager Tammy Wendling said, “With uncertainty about the Delta variant putting many plans in flux, people are seeking fun, outdoor experiences that their families can enjoy while maintaining social distance. This community contest combines a creative at-home element with a public art display. It’s so much fun!”

During the Scarecrow Showdown, participants decorate a scarecrow that the DBA displays in Historic Downtown Bethlehem. Last year’s creative entries included everything from traditional straw-stuffed scarecrows to whimsical creatures and several dedicated to the community’s healthcare heroes. “As this pandemic continues, we have a responsibility to find creative and safe ways to support local businesses. If we lose them, our city will be a shell of itself after the pandemic,” said Wendling.
