EASTON, PA – October 4, 2021 – TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, has selected The City of Easton to receive a 2021 TD Tree Days grant for $9,500. TD Tree Days is a community-based program, created in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, which expands urban forests and green spaces in low- to moderate-income neighborhoods. The grant will allow more than 20 community volunteers to plant 75 native trees along the Karl Stirner Arts Trail on Saturday, October 9 between 9 am and 2 pm.

“During the pandemic, we saw an increased demand for green spaces as more people headed outdoors, which is why this year’s TD Tree Days efforts are more important than ever. We are thrilled to be supporting the City of Easton with a grant to help expand its tree canopy and green spaces,” said Shelley Sylva, Head of US Corporate Citizenship at TD Bank. “We know that planting trees makes a real difference in the communities we serve, and we’re honored to continue supporting this and other organizations in their efforts to expand green spaces across the U.S.”

In 2021, TD Bank celebrates the 10th anniversary of TD Tree Days in the United States. TD Tree Days, the bank’s flagship volunteer and urban greening program, has brought together thousands of volunteers from Maine to Florida and has been a major contributor to the TD Ready Commitment’s goal of planting one million trees across North America by 2030.

To date, thousands of volunteers have supported numerous environmental initiatives, helping TD plant more than 600,000 trees across North America. This year, the City of Easton is one of 21 organizations and municipalities in the United States awarded a TD Tree Days grant.

“As climate change continues to evolve, along with other unintentional introductions that have been a detriment to the urban canopy, support from programs like TD Tree Days is needed now more than ever in order to restore it. Their contribution to this successional planting plan along the Karl Stirner Arts Trail will help to create balance in this delicate ecosystem running along the Bushkill Creek,” said Easton City Forester Rob Christopher.

TD Tree Days is one of many programs supporting the TD Ready Commitment, TD Bank’s corporate citizenship platform that makes strategic investments across four drivers of change in the communities TD serves to build a more inclusive and sustainable future for all. The TD Tree Days program supports the TD Ready Commitment’s Vibrant Planet driver of change, helping to improve the quality of our environment and address environmental inequities so people and economies can thrive.

“We have a responsibility to give back to the communities we serve, and through the TD Ready Commitment we are able to support initiatives, like TD Tree Days, that help ensure a sustainable and inclusive future for all,” added Sylva.

In addition to Easton, TD Tree Days events are scheduled in these communities this award cycle: Detroit, MI, Pennsauken Township, NJ, Tampa, FL, Asheville, NC, Lewiston-Auburn, ME, Asbury Park, NJ, Winter Haven, FL, Bronx, NY, Goulds and West River Parks in Miami, FL, Alexandria, VA, Bridgeport, CT, Brooklyn, NY, Wilmington, NC, Roxbury, MA, Northfield, NH, Jacksonville, FL, Wilmington, DE, Hartford, CT, and Newark, NJ.
