Valley Preferred Cycling Center Announces 2016 Race Schedule

TREXLERTOWN, Pa. – Last June T-town truly was the “Cycling Capital of the World,” with UCI points up for grabs four times in three weeks.

This summer all eyes will be on the Valley Preferred Cycling Center in June and July with the former featuring the same amount of UCI opportunities as a year ago and the latter boasting the 2016 USA Cycling Junior and Elite National Championships.

Wednesday morning VPCC Executive Director and race program creator Marty Nothstein announced the 2016 race schedule, including World Series of Bicycling as well as T-town’s Tuesday and Saturday races.

“I am very excited for this summer,” Nothstein said. “I think we have a great schedule set up this year that will attract a lot of Olympic riders in June before they head off to Rio and then we will host the best elite and junior riders this country has to offer at the end of July.”

Fuji Bikes, the official bike provider for VPCC, returns as the title sponsor of the Tuesday night Pro-Am series and First Niagara remains the sponsor of the Masters & Rookies series on Saturday afternoons.

The Fuji Bikes Super Tuesday Pro-Am Series begins on May 17 while the First Niagara Masters & Rookies series is set to begin on May 21.

The 2016 World Series of Bicycling opens up on Friday, June 3 with the UCI U.S. Sprint Gran Prix, which will feature a lot of great sprinting and potentially a new track record. The next three WSB events are all UCI as well. June 10 is the UCI Fastest Man on Wheels. Then to wrap up UCI at VPCC for 2016, there will be two UCI nights in one week. First is the UCI Festival of Speed on June 17, which is then followed by the UCI Red Robin Finals on June 18.

VPCC introduces a new WSB event, the T-town Showdown, on July 8, after returning from its week off for the Fourth of July. Nothstein used the word, “mystery,” to describe that night’s racing.

The Golden Wheel Race follows the next week, but then there is a week off of all racing, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, leading up to the national championships.

August wraps up the 2016 WSB schedule with, in order, the Keirin Cup, Rodale Corporate Challenge, Tandemonium, and the Madison Cup/Air Products Finals.

“I think having the Madison Cup and the Air Products Finals on the same night, the last night of the World Series of Bicycling season, is perfect,” Nothstein said. “The Madison Cup is a storied event and by the end of August our Air Products programs are officially wrapped up. It will be a good way to send both the community programs and the racing season out in style.”

All World Series of Bicycling events are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., with gates opening at 6 p.m.

Single and season tickets are set to go on sale in the coming weeks.

Additionally, the 2016 World Series of Bicycling Promotional Schedule is also slated to be released in the near future.
