Bethlehem, PA – April 10, 2023 – Celtic Cultural Alliance (CCA) is excited to announce that the 2023 Celtic Classic Highland Games & Festival will be a cashless operation this year.

The staff and committee members who plan CCA’s events have worked hard the last few months to make everything come together, to create the best experience possible for visitors.

CCA Executive Director, Jayne Ann Recker states: “We have received requests from vendors to consider this while watching cash receipts drop each year as compared to electronic payments.  In our decision-making process, we observed other events and venues make the change with great success.  Since the pandemic, people have come to expect it.  It will mean faster lines, giving everyone more time to enjoy what the Celtic Classic has to offer.”

There will be a strong promotional campaign from now until the start of the Celtic Classic, so that as many people as possible can be informed in advance.

For patrons who may have missed the announcements or choose not to use credit, debit or other accepted electronic payments, gift cards will be available for purchase with cash at the event.  Gift cards and beverage tokens will also be available for advance purchase this summer.

Recker stated that while cash will not be accepted for food or beverage purposes, the 40+ Celtic retail merchants will still accept cash payments along with credit, debit and other electronic forms of their choosing.

The CCA is gearing up for the 36th presentation of the Celtic Classic September 22nd – September 24th, and will begin making major announcements next month, including the performer lineup.

About the Celtic Cultural Alliance

On Columbus Day weekend in 1988, the first Celtic Classic was presented by a small group of individuals.  The goal of this dedicated group was to create an event that symbolized the Celtic spirit and history, and to provide the impetus for an organization that focused on promoting the Celtic culture. This group has now evolved into Celtic Cultural Alliance to better communicate the overall goals of the organization.

The CCA has expanded with year-round programming to support the mission of promoting and preserving Celtic Culture through arts, music, literature, dance, and history programs. In keeping with the spirit of “Next Generation”, the CCA also offers scholarships to promising young students of the Celtic Arts. These yearly scholarships are offered to students of the arts, including Irish Step Dance, Highland Dance, Fiddle, and Bagpipes.

The Celtic Classic has blossomed into one of the largest Highland Games and Celtic Festivals in North America. Annually, over 200,000 visitors come to Historic Bethlehem to join in this celebration of all things Celtic. The organization has expanded into year-round programs. Our educational programming has expanded to include community outreach events in area school districts, religious institutions, local theaters and colleges throughout the Lehigh Valley. A series of scholarships are awarded each year in varied areas of Celtic culture.
