County Executive Lamont G. McClure is pleased to announce that Northampton County Council voted to unanimously approve his gift ban ordinance by a vote of 9-0 at the Thursday, July 20 meeting.

“I want to thank Council for their vote,” says Lamont McClure. “It is in the County’s best interest to update and strengthen the County gift ban to ensure we retain the public’s trust and confidence.”

A gift ban has always been in place in Northampton County. The Home Rule Charter prohibits elected County officials, officers, and employees from accepting any financial benefits or items of value, such as tickets to sporting events, concerts, or personal and professional services from any person or organization that conducts business with the County.

Northampton County Administrative Code clarifies the definition of the acceptance of gifts by elected County officials, officers, and employees. However, there was a need to strengthen the definition and standards of conduct applicable to the acceptance of gifts by elected County officials, officers, and employees. The Home Rule Charter allowed for County Council to amend the Administrative Code in order to do so.

Executive McClure’s gift ban is similar to Governor Shapiro’s, announced earlier this year.
