PPL Electric Utilities Customers to See Lower Supply Charge Heading into Winter Heating Season

Price to Compare for customers to decrease on December 1

PPL Electric Utilities customers who don’t shop for electricity supply will see a drop in their supply price starting Dec. 1, 2023. The supply charge is included in the Price to Compare (PTC) and passed along to customers without markup. The PTC is updated twice per year and is the price customers should use to compare offers from alternative energy suppliers.

The new Price to Compare will change on Dec. 1, 2023, to:

  • Residential customers: the new rate is 11.028¢/kWh, which means the monthly electric bill for an average residential customer will drop by about $11.00.
  • Small business customers: the new rate is 11.386¢/kWh, which means the monthly electric bill for an average business customer will drop by about $3.00.

The Dec. 1, 2023, decrease of the PTC follows larger decreases that took effect on June 1, 2023. This year, the Price to Compare has decreased by more than 24% for residential customers and almost 23% for small business customers.

“As we head into the winter heating season, we are pleased to pass along these savings to our customers who don’t shop for a supplier,” said Christine Martin, president of PPL Electric Utilities. “We are committed to procuring reliable and stable energy supply for our customers. We will continue to take steps to improve operating efficiency and control costs on our end while delivering reliable service.”

About the Price to Compare

PPL Electric delivers electricity, but it doesn’t own the power plants where electricity is generated. Customers who don’t shop for electricity supply pay the default rate, or Price to Compare, which is updated twice per year based upon competitive energy auctions. The supply cost is passed along without markup to customers.
