Washington D.C. – Congressman Ryan Mackenzie, representing the Greater Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District, introduced a bill this week ensuring that the President can rein in the Iranian energy sector and the terrorist financing it produces. The bill, the Solidify Iran Sanctions Act of 2025, removes the sunset clause of the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996, thus ensuring that the appropriate measures will continue to be taken to restrain Iran and its terrorist proxies.
Iran has a well-established record of destabilizing the Middle East by manufacturing weapons and providing financial support for terrorist proxies. With Iran’s assistance, these terrorist proxies have killed and injured U.S. troops stationed on bases in the Middle East and attacked American commercial and military ships.
“The Government of Iran is manufacturing weapons, including drones, acquiring destabilizing conventional weapons from malign actors, and funneling weapons and financial support to its terrorist proxies throughout the Middle East, threatening U.S. personnel and allies in the region,” said Congressman Mackenzie. “The bill that I’ve introduced today will ensure that our government can continue to restrict Iran’s cash flow and limit the capabilities of Iran-backed terrorist organizations.”
Congressman Mackenzie is committed to protecting our troops by preventing Iran from financing its goals of chaos, instability, repression, and violence.
“Over the past year, we have continued to see Iran escalate conflicts in the Middle East through support of terrorist organizations and even direct attacks,” said Congressman Mackenzie. “It’s vital that the United States continue to sanction Iran, reduce its oil revenues, and restrain its ambitions, including by once again restoring America’s status as an energy superpower. If we achieve these goals, we will take a critical step towards achieving peace and stability in the Middle East.
