Congressman Mackenzie Honors Veterans and Celebrates Local History in Carbon County
Carbon County, PA — On Armed Forces Day, Congressman Ryan Mackenzie, who represents Carbon County as part of Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District, participated in two events honoring the region’s history and its people. He began the day by presenting the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster and “V” device to the family of the late Mr. William Bybel, a World War II veteran from Carbon County. Later, he attended the annual Jim Thorpe Birthday Celebration to commemorate the life of the legendary Olympian.
“It was a privilege to present the Bronze Star to the Bybel family in honor of Mr. Bybel’s heroism during World War II,” said Congressman Mackenzie. “His courage and sacrifice represent the very best of our community, and I’m glad that our office could help secure this medal to mark his exemplary service to our country.”
Following the presentation, Congressman Mackenzie traveled to the Jim Thorpe Memorial for the annual celebration of Jim Thorpe’s 138th birthday. He delivered remarks during the program, which featured Native American traditions, musical performances, and comments from local and state leaders.
“I was privileged to participate in Jim Thorpe’s 138th birthday celebration in the town that proudly bears his name,” said Congressman Mackenzie. “As one of the greatest athletes in American history, Jim Thorpe’s extraordinary deeds and hard work continue to inspire our citizens. Thank you to everyone who participated in this terrific celebration.”
