This summer marks the 10th anniversary of “Hablando con su Doctor,” the region’s only Spanish-language medical radio show, hosted by Dr. Leonardo Claros, Director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at St. Luke’s.

Every Saturday morning on La Mega radio (101.7 FM and 92.9 FM) at 7:30 am, Dr. Claros brings trusted health information to the Latino community—one conversation at a time. Over the past decade, he’s recorded more than 450 episodes, covering everything from cardiology to community health, often joined by fellow Spanish-speaking physicians and local leaders.

When Claros is out and about in the community, people will turn to him, having recognized him by voice, not by face. “‘You’re the Latino Doctor!’ they’ll say,” Dr. Claros shared.

“Being recognized as the Spanish voice, the link to our Latino community for trusted health care wisdom, is truly an honor.”

The show became a lifeline during the COVID-19 pandemic, helping dispel myths and encourage vaccination. Its impact has earned recognition from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, local media, and city officials.

What began as a simple idea—connecting St. Luke’s services with the Hispanic community—has grown into a trusted platform for health, hope, and connection.

“It has been a true pleasure and privilege to be able to serve our community while advancing the St. Luke’s mission,” Dr. Claros said.

A special anniversary episode is planned to celebrate this milestone and reaffirm St. Luke’s commitment to the Latino community.

About St. Luke’s

Founded in 1872, St. Luke’s University Health Network (SLUHN) is a fully integrated, regional, non-profit network of more than 23,000 employees providing services at 16 campuses and 350+ outpatient sites. With annual net revenue of over $4 billion, the Network’s service area includes 11 counties in two states: Lehigh, Northampton, Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Montgomery, Monroe, Schuylkill and Luzerne counties in Pennsylvania and Warren and Hunterdon counties in New Jersey. St. Luke’s hospitals operate the largest network of trauma centers in Pennsylvania, with the Bethlehem Campus being home to St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital.

Dedicated to advancing medical education, St. Luke’s is the preeminent teaching hospital in central-eastern Pennsylvania. In partnership with Temple University, the Network established the Lehigh Valley’s first and only four-year medical school campus. It also operates the nation’s oldest School of Nursing, established in 1884, and 52 fully accredited graduate medical educational programs with more than 500 residents and fellows. In 2022, St. Luke’s, a member of the Children’s Hospital Association, established the Lehigh Valley’s first and only free-standing facility dedicated entirely to kids.

St. Luke’s has been named a Leapfrog Group and Healthgrades Top Hospital and a Newsweek World’s Best Hospital. It is the only Lehigh Valley-based health care system to earn Medicare’s five-star ratings (the highest) for quality, efficiency and patient satisfaction. In 2025, the Network earned straight A’s from Leapfrog across all of its 11 acute care hospitals. It has earned 100 Top Hospital designations from Fortune/PINC AI 11 years in a row, including in 2021 when its flagship University Hospital was identified as THE #1 TEACHING HOSPITAL IN THE COUNTRY. Utilizing the Epic electronic medical record (EMR) system for both inpatient and outpatient services, the Network is a multi-year recipient of the Most Wired award recognizing the breadth of SLUHN’s information technology applications such as telehealth, online scheduling and online pricing information.
