December 19, 2025 – The City of Allentown today announced a personnel transition within the Mayor’s Office, as Communications Manager Genesis Ortega prepares to assume a leadership role with Allentown City Council next month.

Ortega, who has served the City of Allentown since January 2022, will conclude her service with the Mayor’s Office on Friday, January 2, 2026. She has been selected to serve as Public Affairs & Policy Officer with Allentown City Council, a newly created senior position established this year.

In her new role, Ortega will oversee communications, policy development, and community engagement for City Council. The position expands her scope of responsibility and supports cross-government collaboration between City Council and the Administration. She brings a broad range of experience in public communications, government operations, and community-focused storytelling.

“Serving in the Mayor’s Office has been an incredible honor, and I’m grateful for the trust placed in me to tell the City’s story and help amplify its voice across the media, online, and throughout the community,” Ortega said. “This new role allows me to take on broader responsibilities and continue serving Allentown at a higher level. I appreciate the confidence shown by both the Administration and City Council, and I look forward to this next chapter.”

As Communications Manager, Ortega oversaw internal and external communications, media relations, branding initiatives, digital strategy, and crisis messaging.

Mayor Matt Tuerk thanked Ortega for her service and contributions to the Administration.

“Genesis took on a significant role and transformed the way that our City shows up for its residents to help them stay informed,” Tuerk said. “Over the past four years, she has built a solid team, strengthened our city’s brand, and been a trusted voice in our community. She’s leaving the Mayor’s Office better than she found it and will continue to be a huge ally to our work to build a city that promotes the well-being of our residents. I am proud of Genesis and cannot wait to see how she works her magic with City Council.”

On behalf of Allentown City Council, Councilwoman Cynthia Mota welcomed Ortega’s selection.

“This is a fresh start and a new beginning,” Mota said. “Council has been looking to fill this position for quite some time, and we’re fortunate to have found someone with an exemplary skill set. Genesis knows the players, is a proven communicator, community-oriented, and an effective leader. She will hit the ground running and be an important collaborator as we continue moving the city forward. We thank the Mayor for his support and collaboration in this transition.”

Mayor Tuerk announced that the City will begin the process of hiring a Communications Manager to support the Mayor’s Office. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply at www.allentownpa.gov/jobs.
