More than 100,000 checks mailed totaling nearly $23 million in unclaimed property returns

Harrisburg, PA — Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced today that more than 100,000 Pennsylvania Money Match checks, totaling nearly $23 million, have been printed, stamped and are being shipped to all corners of the Commonwealth.

“I am excited that the first batch of Money Match checks of 2026 are on their way to the mailboxes,” Treasurer Garrity said. “Last year we returned more than $50 million in the program’s first year and we continue to build on that momentum to return even more unclaimed property.”

Pennsylvania Money Match allows Treasury to return unclaimed property valued at up to $500 belonging to a single owner automatically without the need to search or file a claim.

Treasurer Garrity urges Pennsylvanians to be on the lookout for these checks and to cash them when they arrive.

“This is your money, and we’ve made it easier than ever to get it back into your hands safely and quickly,” Treasurer Garrity said. “Also, don’t forget to regularly search online for unclaimed property, since some claims may not qualify to be part of Money Match.”

Pennsylvania Money Match was created by Act 81 of 2024, passing in the House and Senate unanimously. Unclaimed property valued above $500, that has multiple owners or other complexities still requires a claim to be filed along with the submission of required documentation.

Unclaimed property includes things like dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten stocks, rebates, insurance policies and more. It can also include tangible property such as the contents of abandoned safe deposit boxes.

More than one in ten Pennsylvanians is owed some of the $5 billion in unclaimed property in Treasury’s care. The average value of a claim is more than $1,000.
