Canadians sweep UCI Fastest Man on Wheels

TREXLERTOWN, Pa. – Due to the high quality of the riders in the field, the Keirin Cup was on the line on Friday night in T-Town.

At the end of the night, it was Canada showing their dominance as Kate O’Brien and Hugo Barette won the hardware as they were the victors of the 2016 UCI Fastest Man on Wheels event at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center.

Local rider Mandy Marquardt finished second behind O’Brien in the 1-6 final for the women and Kwesi Browne of Trinidad and Tobago finished second in the competitive men’s 1-6 final ride.

Barette is the first men’s rider from Canada to hoist the Keirin Cup in its history.

There were two points races, one for the men and one for the women, with UCI points on the line. Luke Mudgway accumulated 21 points and won the race as well as a bouquet from the Macungie’s Posey Patch in Main Street Macungie, Pennsylvania while Rushlee Buchanan earned 23 points and won the same beautiful display of flowers.
