Lemonade Days at Dorney Park Help to “Scare Away Childhood Cancer”
DORNEY PARK, Allentown, PA (October 14, 2016) – On October 9th, Dorney Park hosted “Pediatric Cancer Awareness Day” for children and families affected by childhood cancer. As part of opening ceremonies for the day, representatives from Dorney Park proudly presented Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and one of its Hero Families with a donation in the amount of $70,595 for its fundraising efforts during the 2016 season.
The annual event, which is also sponsored by Just Born, Inc. and the law firm of Fitzpatrick Lentz & Bubba,P.C., drew over 500 guests of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley in efforts to “Scare Away Childhood Cancer”. Invited guests enjoyed a full day of fun, including a luncheon, crafts, festive fall activities during The Great Pumpkin Fest and Dorney Park’s rides, as well as special appearances from PEANUTS® characters and Just Born’s PEEPS® mascot.
In 2015, Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom established a partnership with the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation through its Lemonade Days, a month long program during June. As a result of Dorney Park’s efforts, over $40,000 was raised for the foundation in its inaugural year. In its second year, the organizations grew their partnership identifying more opportunities and developing new programs which enabled the total funds raised to almost double. Fundraising initiatives in 2016 included Lemonade Days at Dorney Park, a Lemon Run 5K, a social media photo sharing campaign, in-park Lemonade Stand during Kids Fest, and a portion of proceeds from online ticket sales and various in-park events. “We look forward to a continued partnership and are happy to work together to assist all those in joining the fight against childhood cancer,” said Michael Fehnel, Vice President & General Manager of Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom.
