Artist reception to be held December 15

Allentown, PA — The Fine Art Galleries at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center today installed an exhibit of photographer Andrew Tomasino’s series Queen City: Photographs of Allentown Drag Queens. The exhibit features behind-the-scenes photographs of Allentown drag performers as they dress and perform. There will be an artist reception on December 15, from 6-8pm. The exhibit will run from November 30-January 6, 2017 and the fine art galleries are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1-6pm, or by appointment.

The fine art galleries at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center celebrate LGBT artists and LGBT-themed art and are professionally curated by Deborah Rabinsky. Rabinsky noted, “Andrew is a story teller with the camera’s eye. He opens up the unexplored world of new chances, new beginning, and most importantly new stories. The exhibition Queen City is fueled by an impetuous desire to partake in the story as it unfolds around you. The install creates and evokes curiosity, Andrew modulates time and movement in his photographs with double exposures, with cold black and whites’ he holds your eye on a face as if you’re being introduced to a very important person you must remember. This is Andrew’s 1st solo exhibition and you don’t want to miss this photojournalist who is like a young Diane Arbus”

This exhibit is Tomasino’s first solo exhibit. Tomasino said, “to document every aspect of life has been my mission since I made the choice to become an artist and photographer. To focus my energy on those who interest me, to celebrate them, and to show them to the world. With the exhibit of “Queen City” we celebrate Allentown’s drag community with images both on and off the stage.”Adrian Shanker, Executive Director of Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center, commented, “Celebrating LGBT arts and culture is core to our mission of providing programs and services for the local LGBT community. We are excited for the opportunity to support an emerging artist, to premier an exhibit about Allentown drag community, and to celebrate LGBT arts and culture throughout the year.”
