School Library Journal calls GREEN GREEN, “An attractive read-aloud for beginning lessons on gardening.” Published by Farrar Straus Giroux/Macmillan, it’s illustrated by Eisner Award winning international artist Sonia Sánchez. In the book, GREEN GREEN grass is fresh and clean for a family to play in. And BROWN BROWN dirt is perfect for planting a garden. But when GRAY GRAY buildings start to rise up, and a whole city grows, can there be any room left for green space? This poetic and color-filled story celebrates the joys of creating a community garden for everyone to share.

As Sonia Sánchez’s art blooms across the page, young readers will see the small, simple things they can do to help the world become more GREEN GREEN. Included are ways to help save threatened Monarch butterflies and honey bees. “For us, it’s all about sustainability,” says co-author and Landscape Architect Baldev Lamba. “It’s so important that kids grow up understanding that there are simple ways to be green. They can be the ones to make a real difference in our world.”

Marie Lamba (marielamba.com) is also author of the contemporary young adult novels WHAT I MEANT… (Random House), which was dubbed “an impressive debut” by Publishers Weekly, and OVER MY HEAD. And Marie’s Outlander-like YA fantasy DRAWN is a Literary Classics International Book Silver Award winner. She is also a literary agent at The Jennifer De Chiara Literary Agency in New York City (jdlit.com).

Baldev Lamba is Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at Temple University and an award-winning landscape architect. As principal of the landscape architecture firm Lamba Associates, Inc. he is one of the designers of the First Ladies Water Garden, which is permanently installed on the Mall in Washington, DC. Baldev’s roots in community gardening run deep. He has worked with numerous inner city groups to create community gardens and urban parks, always with an eye toward sustainability. Among his recent projects was the PHS Pops Up Garden, which transformed a barren city block in Philadelphia into a lush urban oasis.
