Lehigh Valley, PA: July 6th 2020 – September 30th 2020

Event Information:

During the COVID-19 shutdown, “non-essential” businesses were required to close for a total of 86 days, from March 25 through June 19. The Affiliated Chambers Team, of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, knows that all small businesses are essential to the making the Lehigh Valley thrive and therefore are encouraging the general public to spend the next 86 days intentionally supporting local to showing love and support for our local establishments! Designed to mirror the 86 days of shutdown when we couldn’t support them as usual, this valley-wide push is a reminder to shop local.

This initiative will take place from Monday, July 6th – Wednesday, September 30th. The team encourages participants to tag the Small Business Support” using the hashtags #ShopSmall86 and #SupportLocalLV.  They will continue to post reminders and participants’ shared posts on the Affiliated Chambers’ Instagram & LinkedIn pages.

Local shop owner Kirsten Hess of Let’s Play Books Bookstore in Emmaus says, “86 days is truly a lifetime in small business days. Thousands of businesses have closed their doors for good, and committing to choose to shop local now will quite literally save businesses. There has never been a more important time to tell your neighbors to shop local! Buy here, and keep us here.”

Congresswoman Wild shares, “Our small businesses are the backbone of our local economy and vibrant Greater Lehigh Valley culture – and this pandemic and recession have put many of them in jeopardy. As businesses across our community begin to reopen, there has never been a more important time to shop local. It can truly make the difference between seeing beloved main street businesses shut their doors for good or move toward recovery. We all have the power to help our economy and community rebuild – and it starts with making an active effort to put our dollar behind our small local businesses.”

Ashley Lorah, AVP of Affiliated Chambers for the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber commented, “Our organization works hard to elevate and emphasize the importance, dedication, and impact of small businesses. When you look around at community events, youth sports fields, and in the local paper among other things, these businesses are the supporters, both financially with gift cards and sponsorship money and also with basket raffle donations. They are pouring their time and energy into creating a homey community for all of us to enjoy. If want to support the continuation of this idyllic hometown feel, we need to ensure we’re intentionally supporting them.”
