Groups that are not affiliated with the Elections Office are sending unsolicited applications to voters

The Election’s Office reports that outside groups are mailing unsolicited voter registration and mail-in ballot applications to citizens in Northampton County. In some cases, the applications are partially filled out with the citizen’s information. At least one group has sent applications to residents who are deceased. These mailings are leading to a great deal of confusion among those voters who have already filled out an application and are scheduled to receive a mail-in ballot for the general election. Many of the mailings list the Election’s Office as the return address and some include the name of Northampton County’s Registrar, Amy Cozze.

“We want the public to know that the Election’s Office does not send out unsolicited applications,” says Amy Cozze. “These mailings have generated a great deal of confusion and, in the case of the recently deceased, much pain for family members. Anyone who receives one of these unsolicited applications should check the ‘Paid by’ notice to see which group sent it.”

The Election’s Office performs regular maintenance of Northampton County’s voter rolls, removing ineligible voters after they have passed away, moved out of the County or have been inactive for a period of time. Groups that have sent out unsolicited applications include the Voter Participation Center, the Center for Voter Information and the RNC.
