Bob and Pat Schoenen, Christmas City Spirits, Eight Oaks Distillery, Kilimanjaro Distillery LLC, Grey’s Group and Betty Duffy to be honored at annual fundraising event.

Bethlehem, PA, June 2, 2021 – Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley (MOWGLV) announced today the awardees to be honored at the organization’s 20th annual fundraising event, the Bountiful Bowl. The event will take place at DeSales University on November 12, 2021.

Bob and Pat Schoenen will be awarded the Bob Wood Legacy Award. The awardee is an individual or family that demonstrates vision and serves as a catalyst to create Valley-wide systemic change around a particular community issue. By focusing on the root causes of problems and involving numerous organizations and systems, they improve the quality of non-profit services to people in need. The Bob Wood awardee has strengthened MOWGLV’s services as part of their broader work on pressing issues. Bob and Pat Schoenen, have been long-time supporters of MOWGLV as well as other organizations through out the community. Pat has been a longstanding Board member with over 20 years of service, including Meals on Wheels Board Presidency from August 2018-July 2020. She played an instrumental role in the merger of Meals on Wheels of Northampton County and Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County in 2018. Bob — a long-time volunteer for MOWGLV, is also the Chair of the organizations current $3.6M Capital Campaign. With their devoted loyalty and continued support, Bob and Pat have aided in the growth of MOWGLV.

Christmas City Spirits, Eight Oaks Distillery and Kilimanjaro Distillery LLC are being awarded with the Corporate Partner Award. This award was created to recognize a company who has supported MOWGLV over an extended period of time, not only through monetary donations, but through volunteerism and other altruistic acts. The Corporate Partner Awardee works to promote social reform and takes actions to improve the well-being of human kind. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when sanitizing products were scarce, Christmas City Spirits, Eight Oaks Distillery and Kilimanjaro Distillery LLC all created and donated gallons of hand sanitizer.  The donation of hand sanitizers allowed Meals on Wheels staff and volunteers to continue daily meal deliveries to the most vulnerable, homebound seniors living in the Lehigh Valley.

Betty Duffy and Grey’s Group were awarded the Laros Family Volunteer award at the Volunteer event in the spring of 2021 but will be recognized during the Bountiful Bowl event.   This group and individual originally started volunteering when the organization was founded, 50 years ago.  They continue volunteering today and the organization is proud to honor their long-standing commitment to helping people in need.
