Hector Rosado and his orchestra “Hache” open the Allentown Department of Parks & Recreation’s 2021 Saturday in the Park concert series at historic West Park on Saturday, June 5 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Hector Rosado is an internationally acclaimed percussionist, bandleader, arranger, educator and recording artist whose career spans nearly four decades. He has performed and toured with many notable performers in the world of Latin music, including his salsa band “Hector Rosado y Orchestra Hache” which he founded in 2001. Broadening his scope to the world of Latin Jazz, he created his “Hector Rosado Latin Jazz Ensemble Siete” group in 2008.

Hector is one of five sons of Puerto Rican immigrants raised on the south side of Bethlehem. He was inspired by a neighborhood Motown band when he first started playing congas. His mother encouraged him at age 10 by taking him by bus to purchase his first conga in the Bronx. By age 16, he sought his own apprenticeship in NYC seeking out the master Eddie Montalgo as his mentor. Soon after, Hector was opening shows for his hero, Ray Barretto.

Currently, Hector spends his time playing music in the Lehigh Valley, Philadelphia, New Jersey and New York.

A respected educator, Hector taught at Community Music School in Allentown, in

elementary schools, and for the past eight years, has directed a Latin music clinic. This unique clinic is an outreach to teach adult singers and instrumentalists the elements of Latin salsa music.

The rain date for this concert will be on Saturday, June 12 at 7 p.m. at West Park.

The Puerto Rican Culture preservation group will be selling refreshments.

The City of Allentown’s Saturday in the Park Series features a wide variety of concerts in city parks during the summer of 2021. The series also features The BC Combo on June 26, Lucky 7 on July 24, and The Large Flowerheads on August 14.
