November 12, 2022 – 1:00 pm

“Steeples and Steel” tours pay tribute to immigrants who left their homelands in search of a better life in America.  Many settled in South Bethlehem, became steelworkers, and also helped build their ethnic churches.

A minibus leaves from St. John’s Windish Lutheran Church, 617 E. Fourth Street, Bethlehem. The first hour of the guided tour is through the neighborhoods of South Bethlehem with an emphasis on the churches.  A church or cemetery is entered each tour.  The second hour is a steelworker-guided tour of the Bethlehem Steel plant site, including the Hoover Mason Trestle. The tour package also includes lunch, an “open house”, and a presentation about St. John’s.  Free parking is available in the first bay of the lot across from the church.

Tickets are $30 per person. Reservations are required through Steelworkers’ Archives at 610.861.0600 or www.steelworkersarchives.com.  Please check the Archives website for specific church and cemetery sites.  Thank you.
